Foreword from the Dean

An independent professional profile reflects the quality achievement expected of graduates after a career in their profession for 3 (three) – 5 (five) years. The independent professional profile of the Civil Engineering Undergraduate Program is based on an analysis of industry needs associated with the scientific fields of departments based on the vision-mission of UIB (International University of Batam) and the vision-mission of Civil Engineering department.  The formulation of the civil engineering department’s independent professional profile considers the needs of the Riau Islands as an archipelago and Indonesia in general which requires professionals in the field of civil engineering, so that it is expected to manage the Indonesian construction sector more optimally.

The Independent Professional Profile is a reflection of the expected quality achievement of graduates after a career in their profession for 3 (three) – 5 (five) years. The Independent Professional Profile of the Civil Engineering Degree Program is a graduate who has the following criteria:

  1. A capable civil engineer who has the ability to think logically, analyze, design, communicate, manage, solve problems, and master engineering software to be able to assess, plan, design, supervise, and manage the implementation of building construction.
  2. A capable civil engineer with negotiation and presentation, communication, and construction development skills who can provide development studies, conduct feasibility analysis, create reports to analyze investment opportunities for clients.
  3. A capable Civil engineer who has the ability to build facilities or infrastructure duty including buildings, civil buildings, mechanical & electrical installations, and also the construction of civil infrastructure for the public interest.

The UIB Civil Engineering Undergraduate’s Independent Professional Profile is developed based on a needs analysis associated with the scientific field of the undergraduate program, the vision-mission of UIB, and the vision-mission of civil engineering department. The needs analysis of the Independent Professional Profile of the Civil Engineering Undergraduate Program has been carried out by considering that infrastructure development in Indonesia is growing rapidly both in terms of quantity and quality. To accommodate this, educational institutions are required to have goals and provide human resources to support this infrastructure development. The system and procedure used to determine and evaluate the Independent Professional Profile is a complete report on the results of the evaluation of the profile of graduates from the questionnaire by civil engineering department and Alumni and Career Development Bureau of UIB as well as regular meetings with stakeholders and alumni. Joint discussions with stakeholders and alumni in the preparation of the Independent Graduate Profile will be more intense when the new curriculum changes.

The formulation of the civil engineering department’s independent professional profile also considers the needs of Indonesian professional human resources needed in the process of planning, designing, developing, utilizing, maintaining and removing infrastructure in Indonesia. To adapt to the needs of graduate users and scientific fields that continue to develop in following the advancement of science and technology, civil engineering department also has 6 (six) laboratories to adapt scientific division, namely:

  1. Structures and Materials Laboratory Structures Laboratory
  2. Geotechnical Laboratory
  3. Transportation Laboratory
  4. Water Resources Laboratory
  5. Survey and Mapping Laboratory
  6. Construction Design and Management Laboratory
